call for papers

semeiosis accepts collaboration of undergraduate and graduate students, professors, researchers or scholars regardless of any field of knowledge, since their contribution presents an approach or point of view related to Semiotics.

The publication may be the result of the afterwards referees evaluation, in a blind review system, supported by the joined action of collaborators, editors and the webdesigners team.

Besides Scientific Editors Irene Machado and Vinicius Romanini, the Editorial Committee may be the result of integration of undergraduate and graduate students, researchers and professors-semioticians in Brazil and overseas.

Collaborations may be submitted directly by registering at SEER system.

guidelines for collaboration

semeiosis accepts collaborations from semiotics researchers (undergraduate and graduate students, professors, artists, scholars) of any field of knowledge.

Submissions may attend to the following guidelines:

1. Texts must be original and unpublished in Brazil, and can be presented as article, paper, essay, news report, interview or book review. Experimental works may be submitted to Scientific Board’s appreciation.

2. Texts must be preferentially written in Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian and/or English.

3. Texts must not exceed 45.000 characters (with space), except book reviews, with 5.000 characters extent.

4. Any material submitted must follow the Formatting guidelines. Besides what is traditionally found in scientific productions, semeiosis allows the inclusion of researches’ original data, as well as the methodologies applied on it, through strategies of selection and navigation that allow various levels of access to the published material, according to the user’s interest. After evaluation, the approved material will be designed and edited by semeiosis’ team of webdesigners, and published after the author’s approval of the final version.

5. Digital images (photos, diagrams, tables) must be inserted into text (.doc or .rft), but also must be sent as independent file (.jpg, in 150 dpi resolution). The same applies to audio or audiovisual files. Titles, subtitles or letterings must attach to the images inserted into text. The main file must not exceed 2MB size.

6. Texts and any materials submitted are author’s responsibility.

formatting guidelines

Texts must be formatted in size 12 Times New Roman, 1,5 line spacing and fully justified, as detailed bellow:

1. Title in bold, Times New Roman, 12 point font size, left alignment.

2. Author’s name in Times New Roman, 12 point font size, left alignment, followed by email address and institutional affiliation in size 12 Times New Roman.

3. Abstracts (both Portuguese and English) must not exceed 150 words (each), Times New Roman, 12 point font size, 1,5 line spacing, followed by keywords (3 to 5), separated by commas, left alignment.

4. Quotations in the main text must be indicated in parenthesis with the corresponding data, separated by commas: author’s last name in caps, year of publication followed by colon and page number: (SOUZA, 1989: 23).

Quotations longer than three lines must come detached from the main text, Times New Roman, 10 point font size, single-spaced, fully justified and indented.

5. Bibliography must follow ABNT rules for publication:

- Books:
LAST NAME, Name. Book title in bold. City: Editor, year.

- Book chapter:
LAST NAME, Name. Chapter’s title. In: LAST NAME, Name. Book title in bold. City: Editor, year. initial-final pages.

- Dissertations and thesis:
LAST NAME, Name. Title in bold. (Work’s genre and field). Institution’s Name, city: year.

- Magazines:
LAST NAME, Name. Title of the article. Book title in bold. City, vol., nº, date, pgs.

- Online publications:
AUTHOR’s NAME. Title of the article. Publication’s name in bold. [on-line] Available in: [electronic address]. Access in day/month/year.

- Movies:
MOVIE TITLE. Original title [when necessary]. Director. Production Studio. Country of origin: year of production. Distribution: Name of distributer, year. [VHS or DVD]. (Running time), coloured or p&b.

6. Footnotes must come in Times New Roman, 10 point font size, single spaced.

7. Ilustrations, tables and diagrams must be presented in sequential Arabic number, written on top, preceded by the word Figure/Table/Diagram and a title on top, indicating its nature and content. The source must come right after the figure/table/diagram, preceded by the word Source.
